George Takei to Headline CSC's Pacific Overtures
Oh my! Star Trek legend George Takei, who recently made his Broadway debut in Allegiance, has been cast as Reciter in Classic Stage Company’s upcoming revival of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Pacific Overtures. The musical follows Commodore Matthew Perry, who sails to Japan in 1853 on a U.S. mission to open up trade relations at any cost and tells the tale of a samurai and a fisherman who are caught up in the Westernization of the East. Directed by John Doyle (The Color Purple), performances will begin on April 5, 2017. Additional casting and creative team for the off-Broadway production will be announced later.
Montego Glover & Joshua Henry Team Up
Talk about a dream lineup! Montego Glover and Joshua Henry will headline an evening with the New York Pops at Feinstein’s/54 Below on September 19. Led by music director Steven Reineke, the pair of Tony nominees will perform some of their favorite tunes; all proceeds will support the New York Pops’ PopsEd music programs, which reach over 4,000 New York City students each year. You can catch Henry on Broadway in Shuffle Along through July 24.
No's Knife to Bow at Old Vic
Crossing the pond for a moment, No’s Knife will make its world premiere at London’s prestigious Old Vic this fall. Conceived and performed by Lisa Dwan and co-directed with Joe Murphy, the show journeys into the heart of Samuel Beckett, unlocking his contemporary relevance to gender, identity and the human condition. The production will play a limited engagement September 29 through October 15, officially opening on October 3.
